Medical Construction — MUSC Pediatric Emergency Department

Location: Medical University of South Carolina - 1st Floor Clinical Sciences Building
The Pediatric Emergency Department, located at the Medical University of South Carolina, underwent a complete interior renovation. The nine bed facility is the only one of its kind throughout the state. It is the first permanent pediatric location for the hospital.
This project required the installation of specialized equipment due to the needs of the facility. A nurse call system, designer kick plates and a medical gas system were included. Additional elements include solid phenolic core headboards, a pneumatic tube system as well as crashrails and handrails.
Welcoming colors were used with the flooring, casework, paint and finishes as an attempt to make the department a more comforting environment for children.
Construction on this site required high levels of coordination and professionalism in order to minimize disruption of normal healthcare operations.
