Commercial Renovation — Pearlz Oyster Bar
Location: 153 East Bay Street, Charleston, SC
The building located at 153 East Bay Street, in the heart of downtown Charleston, was converted from an old print shop into an oyster bar by Chastain Construction, Inc. The 1,800 square foot edifice underwent a complete interior renovation to accommodate a kitchen, bathrooms and seating areas. The goal of the owner and architect was to combine the old with the new. The restaurant's interior features exposed brick walls, antique hardwood floors and stainless steel finishes. A new commercial hood system was installed and the duct system was a challenge and had to be strategically routed through the old building. In addition, the building received a new storefront and a spiral staircase leading to a storage mezzanine above. There is plenty of seating, including a dual oyster-shucking and drink bar, as well as two other dining bars and numerous tables throughout the establishment.
